Standing with the Creator and the Creation

Standing with the Creator and the Creation

Yesterday I noted that next Sunday is Earth Day 2018 — and I gave some reasons why followers of Jesus might want to mirror the care that Jesus showed to the created world.

Observing Earth Day is an opportunity to stand with the Creator and affirm that God’s creation is a stunningly magnificent thing.

It is a chance to stand with the creation that groans under the weight of human recklessness, to share its sorrow and to pledge ourselves anew to be the kind of faithful protective steward God created us to be.

The two images in this post illustrate contrasting natural beauty we rarely see.  The picture above of a serene tidal pool on the west shore of Vancouver island is a fascinating ecosystem that thrives just under the water.  The image below is a scene from the sky — a satellite picture of one of several Nor’easters that   ravaged the US eastern seaboard last January.  Tranquil and ferocious — nature comes in many forms — and every glimpse can make us stand in awe.

I’ve just watched a wonderful video called Our Father’s World which features insightful comments from a dozen eminent communicators on the importance of creation stewardship in the Christian life. I’ll be quoting from some of them during this week, but take a look and listen — there’s lots of beautiful nature footage, too.

  1. What an awesome video that was. I love how all the different segments call us to care for Creation based on the mandate given to us in the Bible……Why hasn’t this video gone viral in Christian cirles?

    1. I agree. Every Christian needs to see it and take it to heart. Let’s share this link with friends who need to see it.
