The Power of the Psalms

The Power of the Psalms

The tiny powerful Coronavirus has brought the world to its knees. Perhaps that is a good posture for us to begin fighting back.

I find myself praying often for nurses, doctors and government officials working overtime every day to get us through this time. I’m grateful too for the grocery store clerks and media people and garbage pick-up guys who can’t work from home. I love the stories of Care-mongering FB groups and other strategies that are trying to ‘spread a contagion of kindness’.

And here is an invitation to my new project, The Power of the Psalms, designed to help us all in these strange days — not just to survive, but to experience personal growth and renewed hope in God’s presence and power with us.

One of the time-proven strategies for personal flourishing in times of upheaval and captivity is the ancient Jewish Book of Psalms. They speak to the heart with passionate feelings that reach out across the centuries and resonate with our feelings of fear, anxiety and frustration.

And they teach us to pray — which is why I say that our knees might be a good posture for finding the true power of the Psalms.

I’m planning to post a video comment on one of the psalms every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I hope you will enjoy them, share them and give me your feedback.

You can see a 4 minute video of this invitation at the Downstream from Eden Facebook page.
